July Greetings from Yellowstone

Though we've been getting some good, soaking rains in Albuquerque, Los Lunas and Santa Fe, your yard might not be. And as much as the moisture from our seasonal monsoons has helped mitigate our long-term drought conditions, the state is not out of the woods. As July’s Smart Irrigation Month wraps up, Yellowstone Landscape wants to remind everyone that monsoon rains are localized, and that homeowners and property managers still need to monitor their landscape’s moisture content for best results.

Property owners and managers typically overwater, unintentionally wasting money every time they take out the hose or turn on the sprinklers. Or, they turn off irrigation systems when it rains and don’t turn them back on soon enough or in areas that didn’t get any or enough moisture.

The best way to know whether and where to water is to test your soil's moisture levels, You can use something as simple as a long screwdriver, or something as high tech as weather or soil moisture monitors to determine the irrigation needs of the landscape. Whatever you do, better managing your water needs can save water, save money and allow you to see better results in your landscape.

For more information about measuring your soil's moisture, or using smart irrigation technology for your property, contact us at 505-898-9615. You can also contact the Water Utility Authority for a free residential or commercial efficient irrigation consultation at 842-WATR (9287).

Until next month!

I Dig It!

Beth Adams, our plant guru, keeps our client color beds looking gorgeous all year long. Here are some shots of the flowers at the Church of Latter Day Saints Temple in Albuquerque. Great job Beth and crews!

Thinking about adding some color to your landscape? Contact your Account Manager today at 505-898-9615.

What's Growing On?

We wore wearing blue for Technology Tuesday on July 6, part of Smart Irrigation Month. Many water utilities (including Albuquerque and Santa Fe) offer rebates for certain water-efficient products. Before upgrading to your new system, check out what's available!

Meet the Staff

Get to know some of the people who've helped us succeed. This month, we meet Anselmo Contreras, Enhancements Manager.

Anselmo Contreras has been with Yellowstone since 2007, when he started as a laborer in construction. He moved his way into being a crew leader, then became an irrigation tech for a few years. He returned to construction as a project tech, then moved back to irrigation when a supervisor position opened up. After about a year there, he became Enhancements Manager in January of 2021.

“This has always been a good company to work for. They really take care of employees here,” he says. “I’ve always been into nature, and have a passion for seeing things grow. Now that I have kids, I can say ‘Look! I planted that tree many years ago and now it’s so big!”

In his free time, Anselmo is out in nature, too. He takes his wife and three children – two sons and a daughter – fishing and hiking around New Mexico.
